Since 1810, Peugeot has been a renowned name in France. Peugeot mills have earned a reputation among chefs and gourmet cooks worldwide for their consistent grinding results, incredible resilience, and proven reliability. Compromise is not a word that is part of the Peugeot vocabulary. Peugeot has designed a unique grinding mechanism for each type of spice: peppercorns, coarse dry salt, chilies, herbs and spices, wet salts, and nutmeg. Additionally, the coffee mechanism, which started it all, brings the total number of unique Peugeot mechanisms to seven. Each mechanism is meticulously designed to extract the maximum flavor and aroma from its corresponding spice.
Aesthetically pleasing, Peugeot mills exemplify the pinnacle of quality, durability, reliability, and innovation, setting the benchmark for all other mills to be measured against. The high-quality beech wood used in Peugeot mills is grown, harvested, dried, shaped, and finished entirely in France. For the Paris Classic mills, the grind can be adjusted by turning the top nut: clockwise to tighten for a finer grind, and counter-clockwise to loosen for a coarser grind. These mills are equipped with Peugeot's legendary pepper grinding mechanism, made of case-hardened steel that has undergone additional treatment to resist wear and corrosion. The double-row of helix-shaped claws in this mechanism grab and crack each peppercorn before grinding it to perfection.
Peugeot's commitment to quality extends from the materials used to the manufacturing process. The mills are PEFC-certified, ensuring the beech wood comes from sustainably managed French forests, and the steel mechanisms are all produced at the Peugeot manufacture, from concept development to commercialization.
The proprietary 2-stage pepper grinding mechanism, made of case-hardened steel and specially treated to maintain razor-sharp teeth and protect against corrosion, is designed to release maximum flavor and aroma by first cracking each peppercorn before grinding it. The classic grind adjustment feature allows users to easily turn the top knob clockwise for finer grinds and counter-clockwise for coarser grinds, providing a safe and comfortable grip for consistent, high-quality output with minimal effort.
To get the best results from the Peugeot salt grinding mechanism, it is recommended to use dry rock salt with a maximum diameter of 4 mm (0.16 inches). Sea salt is not recommended. The mills come partially filled with peppercorns, allowing for immediate enjoyment.
